SEND Inclusion Award

The Millennium School

Impact statement:

High standards and expectations were consistent across the school, taking into account a personalised learning approach and learning styles of all individual young people. The way in which learning is delivered across the school enables young people to engage in an appropriate and relevant manner. Support for those with additional needs is delivered considering the pupil centred approach with relevant and appropriate information sharing methods put in place so that all staff can accommodate pupils. The methods used were again personalised to support future learning.  Review meetings with parents add value to this process where relevant questions could be asked of pupils and parents to ensure that student records are updated accordingly.

All staff across the school are enabled to access training in line with their development needs to support their continued professional development but also to ensure that they provide optimum opportunities to enable pupils with additional needs to thrive.  “Every teacher is an SEN teacher.”

During the final verification visit, pupils were asked to give a word or phrase that would encompass their experience of the support they received and how this made them feel, they replied: 'Fun, lovely, kind, energetic, trustable and interesting.'

Headteacher comments:
'The journey of putting together the SENDIA portfolio was an exciting learning experience. It gave us an opportunity to consolidate our evidence and reflect on our journey thus far – its strengths and areas that we need to continue focusing. We were particularly happy to hear that our practices towards providing for SEND students are inclusive and meet international standards.'
